Result:  DeSales 38, St. Charles 14
DeSales running back Ryan Clark ran the ball 6 times for 164 yards and scored 3 touchdowns for Ryan Wiggins in his first CCL game as head coach of the Stallions.  Junior quarterback Thomas Gentile hooked up with Kenny Stafford four times for 122 yards and a score for DeSales.  Gentile finished 5-of-7 passing for 159 yards.

The Stallions, ranked number one in Division-II, won their first CCL title since 2000, thanks to Jeff Walsh’s 34-yard run with six seconds remaining.  Walsh broke free on the 4th-and-1 run and scored the game’s only touchdown, snapping a 9-game losing streak to Watterson.  DeSales held the Eagles to just 41 yards of offense in the 2nd half.  Adam Slupski intercepted a Mason Tackacs pass and returned it 65-yards with one minute remaining in the 2nd quarter to set up the Stallions‘ first score, a Mark Sherman 21-yard field goal.

2007 Defensive Highlights

Week 1 vs. Lima Shawnee (Win, 20-0)

• Held the Indians to 0 points

• Allowed 69 yards of offense

Week 2 vs. Toledo St. John’s (Win, 31-0)

• Held the Titans to 0 points

• Allowed 50 yards rushing, 132 overall

• Josh Fitzpatrick returned a fumbled 19 yards for a touchdown

Week 3 vs. Westerville North (Win, 42-0)

• 0 points allowed

• For the first time in school history, the Stallions began the season with 3 shutouts

• 19 yard interception return for a touchdown by Evan Killilea

Week 5 vs. Grove City (Win, 38-7)

• 7 points allowed

• Eli Cowan returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown

Week 6 vs. St. Charles (Win, 38-14)

• The Cardinals had a 70-yard scoring drive in the first half, but were held to 34 yards on their other possessions

• 17 of the 27 plays from scrimmage for St. Charles, were for 3 yards or less

Week 7 vs. Bishop Watterson (Win, 13-6)

• 6 points allowed

• Held Watterson to 41 yards of offense in the 2nd half

Week 8 vs. East Central (IN), (Win, 21-7)

• Held the Trojans to 7 points 

Week 9 vs. Cincinnati LaSalle (Win, 35-20)

• Allowed 223 yards of offense

Week 10 vs. Cleveland Benedictine (Win, 35-14)

• 0 points allowed by first-team defense

• Allowed 88 points the entire regular season

Week 11 vs. Zanesville (Win, 50-7)

• Held Blue Devils to 44 yards of offense

• Zanesville running back Bryan Gaiters came into the Regional Quarterfinal with over 1,800 yards rushing in 10 games and was limited to just 3 yards rushing

Week 12 vs. Canfield (Win, 27-10)

• 0 points allowed in the 2nd half

2007 Quick Facts 

• In his first season as Head Coach, long time DeSales assistant, Ryan Wiggins '97 led the Stallions to their first undefeated regular season since 1995

• The Stallions captured their 18th league title

• DeSales finished as the top seed in Region 7, Division-II

• The Stallions were ranked #1 in the final Division-II AP Poll

• Patrick Omameh (OL), Mark Sherman (PK) and Joe Whitehead (DL) were named 1st-Team All-Ohio

• Adam Slupski and Ryan Clark were named Honorable Mention All-Ohio

• Lineman Joe Whitehead was named the Division-II Central District Defensive Player of The Year

• Twelve contributors on the 2007 team, went on to play a Division-I sport in college:  Patrick Omameh (Football - Michigan), Ryan Clark (Baseball - Penn State), Josh Fitzpatrick (Football - Navy), Kenny Stafford (Football - Toledo), Justin Thompson (Football - Kent State), Adam Slupski (Morehead State), John Hiles (Wrestling - Ohio State), Davon Custis (Football - Northwestern), Josh Kusan (Football - Air Force), Jake Smith (St. Francis), Thomas Gentile (Baseball - Cincinnati) and Adam Griffin (Football - Ohio State)

• QB Thomas Gentile replaced Nick Crawford, due to an injury, in week 3 vs. Westerville North; Gentile went on to become the winningest quarterback in DeSales History, finishing 22-2 as a starter.

• Thomas Gentile (209 yards) and Ryan Clark (110 yards, 4 touchdowns) ran for a combined 319 yards in a 27-10 win over Canfield in a Regional Semifinal

• The Stallions lost to Louisville 25-22 in the Region 7 Championship

• DeSales’ Junior Varsity team also went 10-0 in the regular season
