The Stallion Defense held Clinton-Massie, the defending Division-IV State Champions, to 126 yards of total offense and improved to 2-2 overall. Gabe Caruso’s three-yard rushing touchdown gave the Purple and White an early 7-0 lead. On the first possession of the second half, Avery Garlock raced 50 yards for his fifth rushing touchdown of the season, which extended the lead to 14-3 and that would be the final.
This Date in SFD Football History (9/9/66)
This Date in SFD Football History! Today we go all the way back to September 9, 1966. Jay Casey’s ten yard touchdown run with 27 seconds remaining propelled the Stallions to a 14-12 victory against Linden McKinley in the 1966 opener. DeSales put together an 80-yard first quarter scoring drive, capped-off by a four yard rushing touchdown by Butch Blackburn and Mike Benedetti’s two point rushing conversion, ended up being the difference in the game as the Stallions beat the Panthers for the second year in a row.

The fourth edition of "Where Are They Now" for the 2022 season, presented by Ben Aucoin, State Farm Agent, is Evan Killilea ‘10!
We’re running it back this week with another standout linebacker from the 2009 Division-III State Runner-up team! Killilea was a starter on two Regional Championship teams and finished his career with 277 tackles, including 155 his senior year when he earned First Team All-Central District honors.
After DeSales, Evan went on to play at Wittenberg, where he was a four-year letter-winner and a starter on three Tiger NCAA Division-III playoff teams. While at Wittenberg, Evan recorded 297 career tackles in 43 games played and was voted the team’s MVP in 2014.

This Date in SFD Football History (9/2/94)
After returning 23 lettermen from the 1993 team which finished 6-4, with three of those losses by a combined eight points, the Stallions opened up their 1994 season with a 34-13 win over Brookhaven. The Stallions jumped out to a 34-0 lead after a four-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Matt D’Orazio.
The 1994 Stallions would go on to become the program’s first team to go undefeated in the regular season since 1986 and would set a school record for most points scored in the regular season (387). Brookhaven junior and current SFD parent Kenyetietta Quinn, led all rushers with 136 yards on 24 carries.

The third edition of "Where Are They Now" for the 2022 season, presented by Ben Aucoin, State Farm Agent, is Malcolm Burrell ‘10!
Malcolm led the 2009 Division-III State Runner-up Stallions with 180 tackles and was also a Wrestling State Qualifier at 189 pounds! After DeSales, he went on to play collegiately at Ohio Northern University, where he appeared in 37 games for the Polar Bears.

This Date in SFD Football History (8/26/05)
Chris Thomas (pictured above) and the Stallions steamrolled Toledo St. Francis in a 42-7 win in the 2005 season opener. Thomas led the way with 238 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Purple and White piled up 484 yards in the victory. Senior quarterback Matt Mangini crossed the goal line three times for DeSales, the eventual 2005 Division-III State Runner-up.

After setting the DeSales rushing record on the 1985 State Championship Team, Cua went on to play at Marietta, where he was a four-time All-OAC selection and a two-time All-American. The 2005 Marietta Athletic Hall of Fame inductee also played two years professionally in Europe.
Here, Jamey talks about playing for Coach Pusateri and being one of 53 family members to graduate from St. Francis DeSales.

Junior quarterback Avery Garlock (128, 3TD) and senior running back Gabe Caruso (103) each had 100-yard games rushing in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. For Caruso, it was the time in his career eclipsing the 100-yard rushing plateau.
DeSales held the Scotties to 14 yards of offense (0 in the first half) and just two first downs to improve to 1-0 on the season. Sophomore nose guard Ty Neubert scored on an interception return from 18 yards out. Isaac Isaac Pekarcik and Cooper Simpson recorded interceptions for the Stallions in the program’s first shutout since 2018.

The first edition of "Where Are They Now" for the 2022 season, presented by Ben Aucoin, State Farm Agent. In honor of the upcoming 25-year anniversary of the 1997 Division-III State Championship Team, it's Aaron O'Reilly '99!
A starting corner in THREE state championship games at DeSales, Aaron was a First Team All-Ohio performer as senior in 1998, who went onto become a two-time All-Conference selection at Ashland, where he was a captain as a senior.
Tomorrow night against Franklin Heights, Aaron officially begins his 15th season as the Defensive Coordinator for Hamilton Township. Additionally, he's entering his 18th year as a teacher and is also the Head Wrestling Coach and an Assistant Track Coach at Hamilton Township.

SFD Alumnus Brian Asamoah '18 drafted 66th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft
Former Stallion Linebacker Brian Asamoah ‘18 was selected 66th overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd Round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Asamoah became the third DeSales alumnus to be drafted, joining Matt Stewart ‘97 (2001, 4th Round, 102nd pick - Atlanta Falcons) and Gary Berry ‘96 (2000, 3rd Round, 126th pick - Green Bay Packers).
Asamoah declared for the NFL Draft in December, as a redshirt junior, after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Human Relations.
This past season, the Second Team All-Big 12 selection, finished the regular season with a team-high 89 total tackles. He also recorded four tackles for loss, one sack and forced two fumbles throughout the 2021 season.
Asamoah started 19 games for the Sooners over the past two seasons. He led Oklahoma in total tackles in the 2020 campaign, finishing with 66 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception and a forced fumble last season.

SFD Senior Rechee Smith commits to Marist
Senior wide receiver and defensive back Rechee Smith verbally committed to Marist yesterday (2/1) and will continue his playing career for the Red Foxes. Last season, Smith led the Stallions with four interceptions and became the 8th player in DeSales history to surpass the 500-yard receiving plateau in a single season.
Marist, an NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision and Pioneer Football League members finished their season a 5-5.
SFD Senior Jonathan Thompson signs with Cincinnati
DeSales senior Jonathan Thompson made it official today (12/15) and signed his National Letter of Intent with the University of Cincinnati. Thompson, who was a First Team All-Ohio linebacker as a junior, joins former Stallions Ty Van Fossen ‘18 (junior linebacker) and Luke Fickell ‘92 (Head Coach) in the Queen City.
A year removed from one of the best single season defensive performances in SFD history, Thompson broke his tibia and tore all of the ligaments on the inside of his ankle in a preseason game. Thompson played in the final three games on defense and recorded 16 tackles with six for a loss.
As a junior, Thompson led the Stallions in tackles for a loss (31.5) and sacks (9). He tied for a team-high in interceptions (5), pass breakups (5), and was second on the team with 690 rushing yards and six touchdowns. In addition to being named All-Ohio, Thompson was the Division-III Central District Defensive Player of the Year.
All-Ohio Honors for four Stallions
Four Stallions were named to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association All-Ohio Teams, which were announced today (12/8). Senior offensive lineman Jalen Carpenter and senior punter were named Second Team All-Ohio. Sophomore linebacker Max Shulaw earned Third Team All-Ohio honors, while senior two-way player Rechee Smith was recognized as Honorable Mention.
Carpenter started all 12 games at left tackle and finished his career with 19 starts. Carpenter also recorded 20 tackles on defense as a part-time player and was second on the team with 10 tackles for loss.
In his second year as the starting punter, Wallace-Dilling averaged 38 yards per punt on 44 attempts and pinned opponents inside the 20 yard line 15 times.
Linebacker Max Shulaw led the Stallions this season with 92 tackles, 14 for a loss, and scored three defensive touchdowns.
Smith led the Stallions with four interceptions and became the 8th player in DeSales history to surpass the 500-yard receiving plateau in a single season.
Four Stallions Earn First Team All-Central District Honors
Seniors Jalen Carpenter (OL), Rechee Smith (DB), and Nathaniel Wallace-Dilling (P), along with sophomore Max Shulaw (LB) were named Division-III First Team All-Central District on Monday (11/8).

SFD alumnus Chris Stoll '17 has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy
SFD alumnus Chris Stoll '17 has been nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on! Stoll, a long snapper, has appeared in 27 career games for the Nittany Lions.
SFD Alumnus Brian Asamoah '18 named a Butkus Award Semifinalist
SFD alumnus and Oklahoma linebacker, Brian Asamoah, was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Butkus Award! Asamoah has 54 tackles for the fourth ranked Sooners. Last season, the former Stallion led Oklahoma in tackles.
DeSales 21, Sheridan 14, Final
Quarterback Whit Hobgood had a career-high 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Stallions overcame three first half turnovers and a 14-point deficit to improve to 7-4 overall. Max Shulaw blocked a Sheridan punt that set up the go-ahead touchdown late in the 4th. The Stallions, who captured their 60th playoff victory, advanced to play at the number one seed Granville next Friday night.
This Date in SFD Football History - 10/29/2004
The Stallions rallied to beat Ironton 17-14 in a must win game with playoff hopes on the line. Chris Thomas led the way rushing for DeSales, who trailed 14-3 at halftime, with 134 yards. Matt Mangini rushed for a score and connected with Heath Killilea from 35 yards for another touchdown. AJ Principe had a 28-yard field goal in the first half for the Stallions. DeSales handed Ironton their first loss of the season and qualified for the Region 10 playoffs with the victory
